The idea of putting a micro or “pico” projector small enough and efficient enough to fit inside of a cell phone or other portable device has been around for many years. You may ask – why would the world need such a gadget? Well, the short answer is, it solves the last problem that exists in handheld consumer electronics – the small screen. Today, cell phones and other portable electronic devices can provide email, internet access, television, videos, movies, music, pictures, calendars, to name a few! This increasing content can only go so far on such a small screen. Just look at what the Apple iPhone can do, yet it is limited by a small screen size. The ability to project images from these devices would enable the enjoyment of seeing this content without the eye strain. A larger projected image would also allow the sharing of these images.
