Holographic Laser Light

Holographic laser technology is really being driven by one company – Light Blue Optics. The technology is similar to laser scanning in that they are using colored lasers. The difference is that the lasers themselves are not creating the image by scanning off a reflecting mirror. Instead the lasers are reflecting off a Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) device. The LCOS device is programmed using Light Blue’s patented algorithm to reflect the laser light exactly where it needs to go to form the image. The key advantages to this technology is that there is no projection lens required, the projected image can be shown in curved surface with no distortion, and has less moving parts than laser scanning technology. The drawbacks are the same, potential for speckle, and the high cost of lasers.
